    [description] => <p>Mayor Dan Rizzo campaigned on a promise to change the face of Broadway through a well thought out, community guided revitalization process. In order to make certain the business community along Revere&rsquo;s central business district has a voice in the process, the Mayor has established a Broadway Advisory Group which offers input and advice with respect to this important project. Their next meeting will be held on Wednesday May 1st at 5:30pm in the City Council Chambers. All are welcome to attend the meeting.</p>
<p>The group will be meeting with Mayor Rizzo, and other City Officials, to review the second phase of the revitalization effort. Subjects will include a proposal to remove the old Police Station on Pleasant Street to create more parking, parking alternatives to the municipal parking lot, as well as other conceptual and design issues.</p>
<p>Mayor Rizzo&rsquo;s proposed development plan will preserve the historic character of the area while making large-scale aesthetic improvements, creating a robust commercial center that is inviting for residents and local business owners. Top priorities include building and sidewalk renovations, street scape and storefront enhancements, landscaping, lighting improvements, and more accessible trash disposal and recycling facilities. These improvements will beautify Revere&rsquo;s downtown, bolster investor confidence, and promote reinvestment of consumer dollars by making Broadway a &ldquo;real&rdquo; choice destination.</p>

<p>With the support of his Neighborhood Advisory Council, the City Council, Police Department, and other community groups, Mayor Rizzo has launched an aggressive outreach campaign to help bolster Crime Watch Groups across the City. </p>
<p>A Community Crime Watch Meeting will be held on<strong> Tuesday May 21st at 7:00 pm</strong> at Jack Satter House dining room. This meeting is mainly for residents of Ward 5, but all are welcome. Officials from the Revere Police Department will be teaching best practices for Crime Watch formation, which are; build organizations across the city, with planning committees, coordinators, and block captains; communicate using email, phone trees, meetings, special outreach, and partnering with other community groups; identifying different tasks that people can take on.</p>

    [description] => <p>Mayor Daniel Rizzo is pleased to announce that this year&rsquo;s Memorial Day Exercises will be held on Monday, May 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. on the lawn of the American Legion Building at 249 Broadway.</p>
<p>Guest Speaker for the ceremony will be Brigadier General (Retired) Thomas J. Sellars.  Brigadier General Thomas J. Sellars was born in Brockton.  He attended Stoughton High School; earned both a BS and Masters Degree in Business Administration at Anna Maria College, Paxton, MA and a Master of Science Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.  He enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard in September 1974, receiving his commission from the Mass Military Academy on Jul 25, 1977.  BG Sellars&rsquo; awards include:  The Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Iraq Campaign Medal and many other awards and decorations. Throughout his career he has held an assortment of important command and staff positions.  Brigadier General (Ret.)Sellars currently holds the position of Assistant Adjutant General and Executive Officer of the Military Division, Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is married to the former Nancy Mann of Randolph.  They have one son, Sergeant First Class Jason Sellars.</p>
<p>The Master of Ceremonies for the event will be Director of Veterans&rsquo; Services, Nicholas Bua.  Mr. Bua is an Air Force veteran serving in France during the Vietnam era.  He has been active in veteran&rsquo;s affairs since 1980.  Appointed to the V.A. Medical Center Advisory Board, he earned his 500-hour pin.  Mr. Bua has served on many committees performing duties at both the Chelsea Soldiers Home, and the V.A. in Jamaica Plain.</p>
<p>The ceremony will include the laying of wreaths, musical selections, the playing of taps and a recitation of the names of Revere&rsquo;s war dead from the Revolutionary War through the Gulf War.  In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside the American Legion Hall.  Refreshments will be provided by the American Legion Post #61. </p>
