PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERNS & NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS ADDRESSED THROUGH HOST COMMUNITY AGREEEMENT

More public safety personnel and community projects slated to begin now that agreement is finalized

The recently signed host community agreement between the City of Revere, and Suffolk Downs, was crafted to protect the interests of the citizens of Revere. Mayor Rizzo put a high priority on additional resources that could be allocated, through the agreement, towards bolstering Revere’s public safety assets. Measures were also put in place to ensure that community beautification projects could be completed through the host community agreement.

The financial terms of the host community agreement will ensure that millions of dollars go directly into city services via initial payments, community impact fees, and pre-payments.

Community improvement projects are another important factor addressed in the terms of the host community agreement. $1 million has been committed towards the construction of a new Revere Youth Center which will help to service the growing number of children and teenagers within the Community and an additional $2 million will go towards the renovation of the Harry Della Russo Stadium. The new stadium will dramatically impact the quality and quantity of opportunities that currently exist for recreational and sports related activities for our children. Additionally, monies will be allocated towards bicycle access improvements, MBTA Blue line station improvements, and Beachmont streetscape improvements.

Under the Expanded Gaming Act, the City of Revere will enter a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit and the City of Boston concerning public safety matters. Under this agreement officers from Boston and Revere will be assigned to the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit. The agency will coordinate on first responder calls, emergencies, and criminal investigations emanating from the casino. Additional resources will also be directed from Revere’s municipal budget to additional Public Safety personnel and equipment in order to ensure the safety of our population.

“I believe that these additional resources being put towards Public Safety Departments will help provide increased safety and security throughout our City for years to come. As a densely populated urban community, that is a major cut through into Boston, we are constantly under pressure to provide and maintain public safety solutions,” stated Rizzo.
