Revere Leads Region in Innovative Economic Development Grant Application
October 1, 2014
Revere - Today Mayor Daniel Rizzo announced that the cities of Chelsea, Revere, and the Towns of Saugus and Winthrop, are seeking Community Innovation Challenge (CIC) Grant funding to develop the “Metro North Economic Development Portal” (MNEDP) which will be a web based solution for new business development and marketing in the region.
MNEDP will focus on highlighting key factors of the regional economy, which include; public transportation, regional highway systems, ease of permitting, and access to Logan International airport and Downtown Boston to name a few. There are two main major objectives of the MNEDP proposal, which are; streamline new business development at the local level and to create a joint regional marketing portal, with scalable adaptability across the Commonwealth, for the region.
“My administration has always been aggressive towards attracting positive investment and focusing on economic development opportunities and we feel that this grant, if awarded, will help change the way business is done in municipalities that are participating in a significant way. This grant, along with the national award we recently received from Google, sends a strong message to the regional business community that Revere is ready to adapt and change in order to streamline development,” stated Mayor Rizzo.
The CIC grant awards will be announced by the end of October. The implementation of the MNEDP initiative will dramatically improve the way in which business is conducted in all participating communities. A central clearing house will be created for new business development and will market major development opportunities. Developers, small business owners, and other interested parties will be able to visit MNEDP to obtain a wealth of information in regards to economic development throughout the region rather than visiting local town halls and various town departments.
