Revere Citywide Fitness Challenge & 5K Race Set to Begin in May

March 7, 2014

Free fitness classes to be held at the Beachmont School with 5K Race slated for June 7, 2014

Revere – The City of Revere and Mayor Daniel Rizzo are pleased to announce the annual Citywide Fitness Challenge, beginning on May 12, 2014 and culminating with a 5K Road Race on June 7, 2014.

The Fitness Challenge helps showcase to residents just how important, fun, and exciting health and fitness can be. All scheduled classes for the Fitness Challenge will be offered during the week and will be held at the Beachmont School. If you would like more information about how you can participate and get on the road to a more active and healthy lifestyle, please contact co-coordinator Jodi Reath of Millions of Muscles Fitness at jodi@millionsofmuscles.com . This will mark our third year that the Fitness Challenge has taken place and the event organizers, Jodi Reath and Sean Mallett, are excited about some of the changes to the program.

Jodi Reath said, “We are once again excited to be involved in this wonderful community event. We anticipate our biggest turnout yet for families and children as we have something for everyone!”

The 5K Race will occur on June 7, 2014 at 9:00am at the Whelan School. Pre-registration for the race will be $20 and same day registration will be $25. Last year, in the race’s first year of inception, hundreds of residents came out to walk and run the race route on a pleasant spring morning. Race organizers, Julie DeMauro, and Dr. Ann Marie Costa, are hoping to attract race participants from across Revere and beyond. If you would like to learn more about the race please email Julie at julie_demauro@hotmail.com.

“Last years 5 K Race was a great success and was well received by the participants. Planning has already begun for this year’s race and we expect a greater turnout,” stated Julie DeMauro.

About the Revere Citywide Fitness Challenge and 5K Race:

The Revere Citywide Fitness Challenge was first initiated by Jodi Reath and Sean Mallet, owners of Millions of Muscles Fitness, in order to promote health and wellness in Revere. Revere on the Move, Revere Cares, the Revere Recreation Department, Mayor Rizzo’s Office, Revere Public Schools, and numerous health and wellness business collaborate each year in order to continue the tradition of promoting good health throughout our community. The challenge has been highly successful in showcasing many of the important health and wellness businesses in Revere along with giving residents a free way to exercise and become healthy. In the Spring of 2013 Julie DeMauro, Safe Routes to School Coordinator of Walk Boston, and Dr. Ann Marie Costa, former Revere Public Schools Deputy Superintendent, joined the group and helped to organize the first Revere Runs 5K Race. Since last year both groups have joined together to create the Annual Revere Citywide Challenge and 5K Race. The goal of this collaboration is to promote health and wellness for the residents of Revere. Proceeds from the 5K Race will go towards a newly established scholarship for Revere High School Seniors.
