NATIONAL NIGHT OUT CELEBRATION ON MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2013

July 15, 2013

National Night Out (NNO) is a nationwide community policing awareness event. The event is held annually and designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Last year over 37 million people, in over 15,000 communities, participated in NNO events across the United States.

NNO will once again be celebrated in two locations in Revere. One event will take place at Curtis Park at the Garfield School, hosted by Ward 2 Councillor Ira Novoselsky; the other is being held at the Whelan School hosted by Mayor Rizzo’s Revere Neighborhood Advisory Council. Both events are being held in conjunction with the Revere Police Department, Revere Fire Department, the Revere Recreation Department, and the Department of Public Works.

Both locations will feature free food/BBQ, public safety information, K9 demonstrations and entertainment. Curtis Park will also be featuring a “movie night”. Please join us at either location for a night of fun and family activities.

NNO is a great opportunity for communities nationwide to promote police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood camaraderie. “While one night is certainly not an answer to crime, drugs and violence, NNO provides the awareness, energy, and determination to make residents become involved in making their own neighborhoods a safer place year round. This one night celebrates safety and crime prevention successes, and works in an effort to expand and strengthen programs for the next 364 days,” stated Police Chief Joe Cafarelli.

“I look forward to another great National Night Out and encourage families from around the city to come out and participate. It’s a great way to get involved in the community, prevent crime, and meet your neighbors- all while having a little fun,” commented Mayor Rizzo.

"This is a great opportunity to teach the kids and family members that everyone is interested in helping to stop crime in our neighborhoods. And is also a great way for neighbors to meet each other and work together to protect their neighborhoods,” commented Ward 2 City Councilor and Council President Ira Novoselsky.

This event would not be possible without the support from sponsors like BJ’s, Target, Stop & Shop, Nonni’s Pizza, Luigi’s Pizza, and Mr. Blades Barbershop. A full list of sponsors will be available after the event.
