City Government Teams with Harvard Graduate Students for an Urban Planning Exercise

CITY GOVERNMENT TEAMS WITH HARVARD GRADUATE STUDENTS FOR AN URBAN PLANNING EXERCISE
Fifty graduate students explore the design and development potential on a series of sites
Revere – The City of Revere is pleased to announce that beginning in March it will be teaming with students from the Harvard Graduate School of Design to conduct an analysis of potential development sites within the City of Revere. Fifty Urban Planning students, working in conjunction with the Economic Development and Community Development departments, will be exploring the design and development potential on sites across the City of Revere.
The urban planning exercise will last approximately 8 weeks with findings being provided to the public by the end of April. Students will be reviewing development potential at the following locations: Bell Circle, Necco Site, Wonderland Dog Track and potential for future Commuter Rail Station, Wonderland Marketplace, Ocean Avenue South, Revere Beach Corridor, and Beachmont Station Area. The students will also be reaching out to engage a cross section of the community to understand local issues that would impact development and/or redevelopment. This exercise will provide city leadership, and the community with illustrated plans for each site, incorporating local perspectives and the realities of coastal real estate.

It is not often that cities and towns are able to utilize dozens of students with a deep understanding of planning and economic development and we are grateful to have their support,” stated Mayor Dan Rizzo.
This urban planning exercise being conducted by graduate students from Harvard will assist the city’s "Plan Revere" initiative. Plan Revere will commission a planning process for the entire City of Revere that focuses on the communities strongest assets: proximity to Boston, waterfront, and access to public transportation. A fifty member Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee is being charged with crafting new zoning and policy recommendations, as well as offering input for new and emerging district designations.
