Revere Board of Health Says Flu Shot Is More Important Than Ever This Year

October 16, 2020 -- As of October 16, the Revere Board of Health has been notified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health of 2,945 positive and probable cases of COVID-19 in the City of Revere. The City is averaging 15.7 new cases a day. Revere is still classified as a "high-risk" community by the state.

“Reducing the influx of seasonal flu patients will help preserve the capacity of the health care systems that are already overwhelmed by COVID-19,” said Dr. Nathalee Kong. “Receiving flu vaccinations is especially vital this year – getting the vaccine is the most important thing you can do to protect yourself from the flu and its serious complications. It could also help ensure that you don’t contract COVID-19 and the flu at the same time – something incredibly dangerous for immunocompromised folks such as seniors and people with underlying health conditions.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging everyone to get the flu vaccine this year – saying the more people are vaccinated, the more people are protected. To learn more information from the CDC, please visit their influenza webpage
