Revere Awarded $3.6 Million MassWorks Grant For Infrastructure Improvements on Revere Beach Parkway

November 17, 2016

Governor Charlie Baker announced a $3.6 million MassWorks grant to the City of Revere for infrastructure improvements along Revere Beach Parkway on Wednesday. At the announcement, the Governor was joined by Mayor Brian Arrigo, Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo, State Senator Joe Boncore, Representative RoseLee Vincent, and members of the Revere City Council.

The $3.6 million grant will pay for the replacement of the aging water line under the Parkway, which has suffered from numerous breaks in recent years. The line upgrade will also improve water pressure for Beachmont residents.

In addition, the funding will pay for street and sidewalk repairs, signalization upgrades to improve traffic flow, and improved pedestrian connections to Beachmont and Revere Beach from the site of the old Shaw's supermarket. The long-abandoned site is being redeveloped in to a mixed-use project by TransDel Corporation and Gate Residential. In total, over $90 million of private investment will be unlocked by this project, creating both short-term construction jobs and permanent jobs within the mixed-use complex.

The MassWorks grant program is extremely competitive, with 114 communities applying for this round of funding.

"Revere winning this MassWorks grant shows that the Governor understands the value of targeted investments in Revere. These investments will pay off by creating jobs and boosting the regional economy," said Mayor Arrigo. "Revere residents know that our city has great potential to build a sustainable, vibrant local economy. Leveraging these grant funds will help us take steps in that direction."
