Mayor Brian Arrigo is proud to announce that the Revere Citywide Fitness Challenge and 5K will return this year, in partnership with fitness-focused organizations from around the City. Residents will have the opportunity to sample classes from several health clubs, with an opportunity to win prizes. The celebration of fitness will culminate in the annual Revere Runs 5K on June 11, 2016.

“I’m so excited to continue the new tradition of hosting a 5K,” said Mayor Arrigo. “I’m also happy to see that we’ve been able to engage health clubs around the City to revamp the annual fitness challenge, and make it more open and accessible for everyone. This should be a great opportunity for residents to find a class or a gym that works for them, and a chance for local businesses here in Revere to introduce themselves to more customers.”

During the fitness challenge, which begins on May 16, residents who pre-register either online or by filling out the paper form and returning it to Revere on the Move’s offices at City Hall will have an opportunity to take free fitness classes each day from participating clubs. Current participants include Millions of Muscles, the Rachael Ferrante Dance Studio, Tranquil Flame Yoga, Revere CrossFit, The Cal-Zone, Dance Revolution with Erika, the Revere Karate Academy, and Strength Discovery.

By participating in these free trial classes, residents will earn raffle tickets that they can submit for a drawing to win prizes, including periods of free membership from participating health clubs. The drawing will be held prior to the 5K race.

The annual 5K will once again start in front of the Whelan School, and will coincide with a health fair which invites local businesses to come and promote products and services related to health and nutrition. Also new this year will be a 1-mile “fun run” for kids, which will precede the start of the 5K.

Proceeds from the registration fees and funds raised will be used to fund four $750 scholarships for graduating Revere High School seniors.

“Each year, the fitness challenge and 5K brings together the city for a good cause in providing scholarships for Revere students,” continued Mayor Arrigo. “I’m looking forward to joining in with residents around the City and getting involved in this great community event.”
