During the past several months, the city and business community have worked
together to achieve the following substantive results:
- We established and filled a new economic development position within
the Department of Planning and Economic Development. This new employee created a central
registry to provide interested parties with business opportunities in Revere, and is
aggressively pursuing grants from all available sources to aid our effort.
- We established an Economic Development Task Force comprised of
diverse, concerned citizens who have volunteered their time. This group is meeting monthly
to work on ways to improve the economic climate in our city.
- We became a member of the Mass Alliance for Economic Development
"Site Finder" service, which matches companies seeking commercial and industrial
space with available buildings and land.
- We developed a listing of various state economic development agencies
and Reveres local lending institutions to provide contacts, access and referrals for
economic assistance to interested parties.
- With the support of the City Council, we reached agreement with a
private developer to build a Marriott Residence Inn on the southern end of Revere Beach
Boulevard.
- In turn, this prompted Marriott to build another hotel, a Fairfield
Inn, on a nearby site.
- The city and the business community are about to launch an ambitious
partnership effort to highlight key public and private development opportunities along
Revere Beach.
