FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAYOR RENEWS WATER & SEWER SENIOR
DISCOUNT PROGRAM
Mayor Thomas G.
Ambrosino is pleased to announce the return of the Water & Sewer Senior
Discount Program. The program, which was
implemented for the first time in January of last year, provides a 20% discount
on water and sewer bills to senior citizens who conserve water. Applications for the discount are now
available in the Water Department at City Hall.
Mayor Ambrosino
stated, “I am happy to be able to continue this special program for senior
citizens. Given the constant increases passed
on to the City by the MWRA, this program will provide
some relief to those least able to afford these rising costs.”
In order to be
eligible for the Senior Discount program, applicants must have reached 65 by
December 31, 2002, and must also meet the following criteria: the applicant
must be the owner of record for the property and occupy it as the principal
residence; the applicant’s name must appear on the water bill; and, the
applicant’s gross water consumption for the calendar year 2002 must be 70,000
gallons or less. A senior citizen
meeting these requirements will receive a 20% discount calculated on water
consumed in 2002. The discount will be
reflected on water and sewer bills distributed in April and July this year.
Mayor Ambrosino
concluded by reiterating his commitment to keeping water and sewer rates
affordable for all ratepayers. “Even as
the City endures a difficult fiscal environment, I remain committed to making
certain that the rates passed onto homeowners stay reasonable levels. I believe the Senior Discount Program can
provide a degree of relief to qualifying seniors while it also rewards them for
responsible water consumption.”
